Bottle Battles

Well after our family Valentine’s Day celebration last night, we continued with family time in the NICU today. Since Tony had the day off, he joined me for my normal stint in the NICU and he got to spend some time with Jack and help with Harper’s bath.

Both kiddos looked great today. Jack’s newborn rash is getting better thanks to a topical cream and his eyes don’t seem as swollen; I hope that he continues to heal. Jack was also a good little eater today and took a bottle at 8 am that he completed for his nurse. At 11 am he took over half his bottle for Tony, so progress is being made. In order for the kiddos to come, they have to complete 8 bottles in a day- this seems like an astronomical task for both of the kids right now.

Harper, on the other hand, did not take any bottles today. She doesn’t seem interested in eating from a bottle at all; she won’t even open her mouth to try. This is frustrating to me, because she took a bottle just a few days ago and took half of it and now, suddenly, she is no longer a bottle fan. I am comforted by the fact that she will still nurse and is getting milk when she does nurse. We did a pre and post weight before her 11:30 feeding and Harper did gain weight after nursing for 10 min, so we know that she can get milk. Now we just have to figure out what will make this little girl want to take a bottle- that is our next challenge!
