I'm not sure how it happened, but we seem to have slipped into October and I haven't posted in weeks. I also got a new phone and it has been interesting trying to get my new phone to match up with any of my photo sharing options- please forgive the lack of pictures (I'll make sure to post all the ones I've missed).
On the 30th Harper and Jack turned 33 months old (weird to say), but that makes them just 3 short months away from being 3!
Jack: He has really gotten into adventure shows on tv (Miles from Tomorrowland, PJ Masks) and likes to run through the house singing the theme songs and re-enacting the jump moves. Jack also still likes to read and play with cars and trucks.
Harper has been really into building with Legos (she makes super tall towers) and she has been giving all her animals a check up with her Doc McStuffins doctor kit. Harper has also really gotten into her Little People and will now create little stories as she plays. Jack likes to take the Little People and pretend they're doing superhero jumps (go figure).
Both kiddos started gymnastics two weeks ago and they did pretty well. We're going to a gym that's just for kids and has a class from 2-3 year olds. The kids had to listen to their teacher, wait their turn, mimic movements, and take a leap of faith and put some trust in their teachers. The kids did front handsprings over a pommel horse (with assistance, of course), walked a balance beam, and even rode a zip line (mom and dad got to help with that one). Harper and Jack were so excited about going to the gym that they talked about it for days.
Unfortunately, the kids didn't get to go to gym this week because they both are currently trying to recover from a cold. We've been inside since Tuesday with runny noses, stuffy heads, and hacking coughs. To say that our weekend was low key is an overstatement: the biggest thing we did was make a Costco run today. It was nice to just hang around and get things done in the house, but I'm ready for H and J to feel better.
Harper has also been going strong with her epic meltdowns. Some days she's great and we have no meltdowns, other days it's like a switch gets flipped and she turns into a screaming, writhing, possessed little one. I know she's angry because he's not getting her way, but I also think that her anger scares her- the only way I got her calmed down tonight was holding her hand and rubbing her back. When I tried to leave (because she was screaming), she calmed down and asked me to stay and hold her hand....then she started screaming again...ugh. When does the toddler temper tantrum phase end?
On the upside, both Harper and Jack are having funny conversations with each other, saying silly things to us at the funniest times, and just growing to recognize and use so many words and phrases in ways that make them seem so grown up. For instance, today Jack looked at my shirt and asked me what state was on my shirt (it has the state of Texas printed on it). When I said, what do you think it is? He replied "Texas! My favorite state!" Harper was also watching Tony and I get boxes ready for Goodwill yesterday and she bellowed up the staircase "Hey, what are you two doing up there!?"
So, I think the good: the snuggles, the requests to play, the funny little conversations, the sweet moments between siblings, the dinner prayer, far outweighs the trying moments.
