The twins are 15 days old
today and Tony and I are learning to navigate through the NICU a little better
now. The sights and sounds are more familiar, though I’m not sure I’ll ever be
able to hear one of the alarms go off and not check over my shoulder to see if it
belongs to one of my kids.
Both of the kiddos had a good
day today. Jack and Harper were visited by the occupational therapist, Robin.
Here’s a quick run-down of her assessment:
Jack:
-
Good core
strength
-
Good ability to
hold pacifier in place and maintain suction.
-
Good ability controlling
arms and legs and brining himself back to midline.
-
He needs to work
on turning his head to both sides, so now I am in charge of making sure he
turns his head left when he lies down.
Harper:
-
Good ability to
hold her pacifier in place and maintain suction.
-
Brought her hands
together while therapist was there (a good marker for midline development and
something we’ve been working on)
-
Held therapist’s
finger when prompted by a palm squeeze
-
Needs to work on
her neck strength. There are some callisthenic movements that Tony and I will
now be doing daily to build up her neck and core strength.
-
Needs to work on
head shape, so she is now sleeping on a make-shift neck roll called a “donut”
Overall, it was a good day
and Jack and Harper were pleased to see Nana was back after a weekend away.
You and Tony are the right parents for the job of callisthenic training. These babies will be able to turn their heads every direction in no time. By 3 months I am sure they will be able to do a snatch and power clean!
