Saturdays are quiet days in
the NICU; you would think the weekends would be filled with people visiting
their little ones, but today was unusually quiet. Tony and I made it to the
hospital this morning and we were fortunate to take part in some kangaroo
care (holding our little ones skin to skin) during their feeding. While they
were eating, Tony noticed that Jack and Harper both gained quite a bit of
weight last night and Harper is now 20 grams from being able to wear clothes!
We already have some outfits ready for her when she hits that mark.
The new room the kiddos
“share” has a big window, which makes for some great pictures with natural lighting (both pictures are of Harper today in this new lighting).
The other “perk” is that Tony and I can talk to each other while we hold the
babies- something that we couldn’t do in the old rooms because we were
separated by two curtains. Because of
this new set up, Tony got to watch Jack try breastfeeding today. He’s still
working on getting the hang of it, but his facial expressions are a hoot as
he’s trying to figure everything out. I think Tony got a good laugh and it was
nice to be able to be together- the four of us- finally.
On a final note, Tony and I
entered the NICU today with heavy hearts when we realized baby Avery’s bay was
empty. Please say a prayer for Avery’s family tonight; she passed away this
morning. No parent ever imagines having to bury a child, especially a precious
baby. Also, please say a prayer for the baby that was brought in yesterday,
the one who occupied Jack’s bay that was being worked on when we walked in. We
found out that baby was very sick and had to be taken to another hospital for
emergency heart surgery. I pray this baby will grow and thrive- hope still
lives for him. If nothing else, this place has taught us to be thankful because
everyday with our babies is a good day.
