17 Months Old

On Friday, Harper and Jack turned 17 months old. I look at them and still can't believe that those toddlers are our little babies. I remember 17 months ago I was so worried that Tony and I wouldn't be able to care for twins, but here we are almost a year and 1/2 later and we are figuring things out. Of course, we would never be successful without the help and support of our friends and family.

We have had lots of support the last two weeks in the form of our "Traveling Grandmothers". We were so happy to have Mimi stay with us this week, and we were sad to see her go on Saturday. The kids looked in her room this morning and Harper did her "I don't know" hands; she wondered where her Mimi went. We are happy to report that Mimi made it back to Houston safely and we can't wait to visit with her again. Thank you, Mimi, for coming to help us!

We also spent this week nursing some sick babies back to health. The kiddos were not sick enough to lay around- quite the contrary, they were up and playing all day- but they were still in need of breathing treatments, medicine, and "snot sucking". All of these things have made for a long week, but the kids have found a few high points to celebrate. One of them was showing off some new summer pjs- complete with shorts, and playing "foot wars" after their doctor's appointment, and Jack climbing into the chairs on the porch- he was so proud of himself.

On Saturday, the kiddos and I took a trip to Arlington to visit our favorite hairstylist, Deb. I got my haircut while my mom and Granny kept the kids occupied, then the kids each took a turn getting their haircut. Harper was pretty good- she was very interested in everything that was going on and she kept turning her head. The moment she was done with her haircut, she wanted to go walk around with her Great Granny.
Jack, on the other hand, sat still the entire haircut and played with a brush. He liked watching the hair fall onto the towel draped around his lap and "stabbing" the curls with the brush. When he was finished with his haircut, he looked like a little boy. I guess I can't deny the fact that these two are growing up.

After haircuts, we went back to Nana and Pop's house to have lunch and visit and spend some time with Great Granny before she had to go home. The kids had a great time playing outside and getting into everything they could. Jack insisted on walking around with a hose nozzle that he found on the porch, and wouldn't trade it for anything- not even the basketball Pop wanted to use to barter. The only thing that took Jack's mind off the nozzle, was the wind chime; that's what he's pointing at in the picture below- check out the look on his face. We also took a few pictures of the new haircuts and Nana's new flowers, and Jack got Pop to participate in his first selfie- the things you do for your grandchildren...
The kids took a good nap in Arlington, and were great on the way home in the car. They were awake the whole ride and they "read" books in their carseats to pass the time- what great kiddos.

We spent the rest of the weekend running errands, playing at home, and getting ready for the week. While we were in Costco, and the kids were sitting side-by-side in their shopping cart, Harper and Jack started touching each other. Jack was pointing to Harper's hair; Harper touched Jack's ear. Then Tony encouraged them to hug each other, and they responded by putting their heads together and Jack gave his sister a kiss on her head. Harper blew Jack a kiss. It was a very sweet moment; I wish I would've captured it on camera, but I couldn't pull my eyes away from the moment long enough to dig my phone out of my purse. Instead, I have some pictures of the kids running around the house being silly and reading books- a girl after her momma's heart.

Happy 17 months Harper and Jack- we love you so much!
